PRIME MINISTER STEPHEN J. HARPER

Savour this moment. Do not let anyone take the sweet taste of a well earned victory from you. Tommorrow the media will try to spin this as less than satisfactory victory. They know they are wrong. They know what you know. They know your feat was historic.

They know:

1. You formed a government without the help of Toronto or any of the key urban centres.

2. You knocked out the Liberal Party of Canada in a true David vs. Goliath story

3. You halted the 'peddle to the metal' push by the New Left to destroy the tradional family in Canada

4. The New Left, for the time being no longer sets the agenda

5. You broke through in Quebec. Here is your future, not Toronto

6. You have only ever increased your fortunes, never decreased. You are the future, the Liberals are the past

7. Should a Supreme Court Justice retire under your tenure, you can appoint a new one without having to ask 'mother may I'

8. The Liberal Party of Canada has lost control of the mechanations of government that they use to retain power. You can now investigate them.

9. Canada's image at home and abroad will be that of a family man, proud of his faith and heritage; not a radical secular elitist

10. Canada is slowly being redefined in terms of values; not according to race, gender or sexual orientation

Congratulations to Prime Minister Harper, his family and supporters

Hey Big Elephant,
I just want to point out that not everyone in Toronto is 'lost' and that many of them are just as upset as you are with the firection this city has taken.

It's hard enough being a Tory in Toronto because everyone in your city doesn't believe in what you believe in, and the rest of Canada hates you because you're from Toronto. Cut em some slack!

Nicol, a great post inded. Your little write up at the beginning really spoke to me. I know it's true.

This is about the only thing Toronto has in common with us rubes in the Maritimes. Not enough votes for the CPC, ergo we're stupid, lazy welfare bums who are too scared or brainless to votes for the right guy. Apparently people don't realise that insults like that only make it harder for conservatives to win out here. I know that venting makes people feel good for a little while but it's incredibly counterproductive. Getting people to change is hard enough without outsiders making them resist out of sheer pride and spite.

bigelephant, I wasn't referring to your comment specifically so I apologise if you thought I was taking something out on you. However, there are always plenty of people on plenty of blogs and elsewhere who love the opportunity elections afford to dump without restraint on people from my part of the country. It's really quite ugly, paticulary when you're supposed to be on the same side as these people. It's hard to be persuasive with people after you've finished insulting them.

I was really disappointed with the results of the election out here, particularly since the Tory candidate in my riding only lost by about 500 votes. Very close race. But the thing is, it's going to take a while to make people realise that moving to the right could be to their benefit, especially when most people here aren't really very ideological and there are many voices telling them that they'll suffer if they choose the Conservatives. And there's something that people in huge provinces like Alberta and BC don't understand. Without taking anything away from the hard working people of AB or BC, there is a difference in outlook that comes when Mother Nature dumps unimaginable wealth right under your feet or, in the case of ON, decades of government industrial policies and immense markets next door have made getting rich easier. And that more or less guaranteed wealth changes the way you look at the world. Having people from other parts of the country beat up on you because you can't see things through their eyes doesn't help.

Not everyone in Toronto is crazy! That is why there is the Tories in Toronto to right this wrong. Nicol DuMoulin is already a proud member and should clear up some things!

Toronto Tory,

Thanks for your comment. Yes I certainly am a proud Toronto Tory. I did not mean to give offense.

I just think that overwhelmingly the 'progressive' vote in Toronto out weighs the conservative vote. I'll talk more about this in my next post.

Thanks to everyone else for your comments also. I'll be back soon.
